Wahhabi Terror Apologists and American Empire Shills with Pink Pussyhats

Minnesota's Democratic representative and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has been making headlines lately because of the seemingly "anti-establishment" remarks she made in Washington and has become popular among some Western 'progressives', including feminist circles. Her comments included: criticizing AIPAC, calling out the state of Israel for its treatment of Palestinians (and rightly so), and calling Barack Obama a "pretty face who got away with murder". That is, until she backtracked -- as she usually does, which shouldn't be surprising -- and proclaimed herself to be an "Obama fan".

More recently, however, she made the following Tweet:

Some anti-imperialist critics say that she's a Muslim Brotherhood-controlled opposition or spokesperson, which would not be too farfetched. Here, she is perpetuating the lies used to justify the United States' dirty war on Syria; namely, that the foreign-shipped, head-chopping "moderate rebels" are waging a "revolutionary struggle" against a "brutal third world dictator" and that the U.S. has to intervene in order to help them bring "democracy". The irony behind Omar, Linda Sarsour, and other Western 'feminists' who cheer on the U.S.-backed Al Qaeda "rebels" trying to overthrow the legitimate, popular, and secular government of Bashar al Assad? Consider the fact that Syrian women's rights are an important part of the pillars of the Ba'ath Arab Socialist Party, and are protected, and that Sharia law is forbidden in Syria. Of course, it's a different story when one walks into "rebel"-held territory in Idlib, which is an area that has yet to be liberated. Before being liberated by the Syrian Arab Army, citizens in the districts that were formerly held hostage by the terrorists reported grievances that not only included organ trafficking, executions, food being outright withheld or stolen, children being kidnapped to be used as props in the White Helmets' false flag attacks, and hate crimes against Shia Muslims, Alawites, Druze, and Assyrians -- but also women being forced to wear burkas and girls being prevented from going to school. If the terrorists ever win the war, there is no doubt that Syrian women will lose their rights in almost an instant, just as Afghan women did when the CIA-backed Mujahideen (whence Al Qaeda branched out of) overthrew the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan.

Another irony: consider, too, that Syria is a Muslim-majority country, and that Muslims are the primary murder victims of the U.S.-backed Wahhabbi (and Salafist) forces. To imply that defending Syria and that speaking out against the lies being made about Assad and the Syrian government are somehow "Islamophobic" is just simply absurd. Not to mention, the Syrian President himself -- as well as his late father, former Syrian President Hafez al Assad -- is in fact a Muslim (Alawite, to be specific, which is a Shia sect). It also completely distracts from the fact that U.S. imperialism is at the heart of this conflict.

And perhaps the most bitter irony of ironies is the fact that Syria takes in the most Palestinian refugees (and quickly integrates them into Syrian society, so that they are not living in refugee camps or as second class citizens) and is Palestine's last Arab ally. For many years, the Syrian Ba'ath party has been a staunch supporter of Palestinian liberation. Not only do they provide real humanitarian aid to Palestine, but they also give military assistance, considering that the Syrian Arab Army is actually capable of militarily standing up to Israel. Without a robust anti-imperialist state such as Syria, Palestine would probably have been completely dismantled upon destruction a long time ago. After all, Palestine does not have the proper weapons in order to be able to stand up to Israel. To loudly cheer on destabilization efforts against Palestine's last Arab ally is antithetical to supporting Palestinian liberation, especially when it no longer has Libya or Iraq as regional allies to provide assistance because of their destruction at the hands of U.S. imperialism. Yes, Egypt was once a reliable, formidable ally as well; but after the death of Nasser, it outright capitulated (or 'sold out', to put it more colloquially) and became a U.S. client state. But going back to Syria: also consider the fact that Israel is one of Syria's enemies in the region (along with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, and Turkey). Israel is one of the biggest supporters of the "moderate rebels", whom they actually rescue, airlift, and nurse back to health in their hospitals. To say that it is extremely awkward to be on the same side as Israel when cheering on efforts to destroy Syria, while also claiming to be "pro-BDS", would be an understatement.

Jay Tharappel, who writes at Oriental Despot, puts it perfectly:

When terrorists murder Muslims in the first-world, you rightly condemn it, but when they wage war against actual Muslim majority nations like Syria, you cheer it on. The "people of Syria" largely support the government of President Bashar al Assad, and those who "revolted" are largely sectarian fanatics no different from Brenton Tarrant in their hatred for religious minorities. Sorry, you can't "run with the hares" while "hunting with the hounds".
